CONI Approves ERA’s Initiative

CONI gives its first approval to the Radicals’ idea of participating in the London Olympics as a European Union. The results of the Beijing Olympics caused a debate to flourish in the sports world, where the actual winners were China and USA, however, if all the medals won by the member states of the European Union were tallied, no one could argue that Europe have won 30 more gold medals than China, and twice as many won by the United States, as demonstrated by a research carried out by the "Esperanto" Radical Association.

To support European identity, ERA has launched a campaign that aims to make the European Union countries easy to identify in the 2012 London Olympics so that the total number of medals won could be recognized but also to allow athletes to participate not only with their national flag but also with the European one.

On air with Radio Radicale, during the broadcast, the Vice-president of the Italian National Olympic Comittee, Dr.Riccardo Agabio, expressed himself in favour of ERA’s initiative as sport is useful in raising physical activity and personal healthcare awareness among the younger generations, as well as playing an important role in the more "typical" enviroment of the European Union, such as promoting intercultural dialogue.
